Slave mortgage, 1857 April 20.

Cyrus Bacot mortgages a slave named Rufus (purchased from the estate of John F. Irvin) to Thomas C. Evans, Darlington District Commissioner in Equity as security for a bond for eight hundred dollars. Verso of the document contains transfers of the mortgage to W.E. James and Allen E. McIver and then to the Bank of the State of South Carolina.
